A Helpful Guide To NCR Printing

Amongst the many different forms of printed business stationery and materials used by companies is the long-established and versatile NCR pad. NCR – or No Carbon Required – pads are used to make duplicate copies of certain documents or forms. They are an updated version of the old-fashioned blue carbon paper pads that were used for many years. The concept is simple – the NCR paper is coated with a special dye on the reverse side of the sheet and when the top sheet of the NCR pad is written on, the dye automatically transfers the written content directly onto the sheet underneath producing an identical copy. So, a single writing action produces numerous identical copies – usually the business retains one sheet for their files whilst providing duplicate copies for the customer and any other relevant parties. Here is some information on NCR printing and its applications and benefits:

Individual NCR Sets

NCR printing is normally produced in 2- or 3-part sets but can include greater numbers of sheets if required. The NCR parts are glued together to form one complete set – these are then numbered and often hole punched and/or perforated.

NCR Pads & Books

They are pads constructed from individual NCR sets which are glued together to form a booklet or pad. Often produced in 50’s, the pads include a stiff ‘backboard’ and a ‘writing shield’ that is inserted beneath the bottom copy of an individual set to avoid transfer to multiple sets in error. Once a set is written it is detached and the copies distributed accordingly, and the pad is available for the next transaction. NCR books are constructed in pretty much the same way but may contain individual transaction stubs from which the written sets can be detached. Ordering NCR books makes storage of the items easier and is more cost effective to produce and print.

NCR Pads Uses

Many businesses, especially those in industries such as retail, catering, and construction make regular use of NCR books and pads – indeed, NCR receipt and invoice printing can be a useful professional tool in any business environment where there is a requirement for instant multiple copies of an original document to be produced. Typical documents that lend themselves to NCR printing include:

Invoices and Receipts

In any retail environment there is a requirement for an invoice to be presented to a purchaser – they can record the item sold, the date and price and, in some instances, which employee has performed the transaction. The NCR receipt document mirrors the same information as the invoice but is issued after the transaction is complete. Both receipts and invoices are used in accounting to record and evidence sales transactions to verify requests and receipts for payment.

Purchase Orders

These are commercial documents outlining types, quantities and agreed prices for products or services and a typical example of NCR documents.

Delivery Notes

These NCR documents accompany goods being transported between locations, itemising the specific objects being transported and acting as a checklist at both points of departure and arrival.

Others

Legal documents such as Agreement Forms where it is necessary for a party to sign and agree to Terms and Conditions,  School Accident Report Forms, Gas Safety Records and Hazardous Waste Notes are all examples of documentation that can be served with NCR printing.
