Everything you need to know about brochure printing

Whether you are new to brochure printing or you are well-established within the brochure industry, there are several factors to consider that will influence the final product. You need to give thought to what product is best for you and your business. The more detail and the larger the content, the more likely you are to need a multi-page brochure, whilst short and to-the-point messaging might better benefit from a folder leaflet. We’ve pulled together everything you need to know about brochure printing and put it in one handy guide so you never need to question yourself again. Let’s take a look:

Types of publications

There are many different publications to consider when choosing the best one for you:

  • Folded leaflet printing are perfect compact brochures. These are ideal for promotional prints and even menus, with a choice of folds
  • Saddle stitched brochure printing is an easy and affordable way to create a brochure or document with a bit more structure
  • Perfect bound brochure printing allows you to print your project, catalogue or brochure to the highest standard with a perfect bound finish
  • Wiro bound brochure printing are great for documents of higher volume, which are likely to be perused regularly such as reference books and manuals

Brochure sizes

Once you’ve decided on the best type of binding method, you will want to give thought to the overall size of the finished product. Available in all shapes and sizes, there are a number of common brochure sizes to consider as well as bespoke options. A5 and A4 brochures are some of the most popular for brochures, whilst there are a number of different leaflet folds to choose when decided on a compact brochure option, such as 4 page single fold, a 6 page gate fold, or a 6 page concertina fold.

Setting up files for print

When it comes to setting up any file for print you need to give thought to the bleed and images:

  • Bleed is necessary to ensure there is space to account for movement in the paper or design inconsistencies at the print stage
  • Crop marks show where the trim on your artwork will be so you can determine how close to the edge you want to be
  • Print resolution is important when printing images. 300dpi is the standard size of any image to ensure it doesn’t come out blurry or pixelated
  • CMYK all files should be supplied in CMYK for printing. This ensures colours are correctly correlated so there are no surprises with the finished piece
